Scope of Work

  • Loading of the package at the supplier’s works, Chennai
  • Road transportation from supplier’s works to Nhava Sheva Port
  • Customs and port clearance
  • CFS activities
  • Sea transportation from Nhava Sheva Port to Mombasa Port

Challenges

  • Transit time was one of the main challenges
  • None vessels from Chennai Port had direct sailing which was causing the major delay in the delivery.
  • Placing hydraulic axles (not easily available) immediately on the next day of job confirmation
  • Transportation of consignment from Chennai works to Nhava Sheva – a distance of 1400km to be covered in record time.

Project Execution

Having handled 16+ transformers for various projects in the current fiscal year, the discussions on the commercial & operational front that we had with the supplier’s logistics team established enough confidence to be awarded this project.

Our team understood well the critical operational requirement and was pivotal in explaining the benefits of direct sailing for the transformers to the supplier. Based on our explanation, the consignment was brought to Nhava Sheva (the only port offering direct sailing) for loading onto seagoing vessels.

Hydraulic axels are specialised transport equipment and are not available easily. Despite this, our team managed to place two of them at the supplier’s works the very next day of job confirmation. Thorough coordination with the supplier for documentation and export clearance was required as the supplier is based in an SEZ for which the documents had to be vetted and prepared on our instructions, as this consignment was quite different from regular export shipments.

The consignment was brought to Nhava Sheva within 8 days of transit time, covering a distance of 1400 kms. This was all accomplished as Total Movements deployed their escort vehicle right from the supplier’s works to Nhava Sheva. Export clearance was completed & the consignment was gated inside the port within 3 days. The project was executed seamlessly with an impressive 25-day turnaround time. The total transit time met the client’s expectations, while other service providers were offering a turnaround of 50+ days.
